Midterm and New Thoughts
I got my midterm evaluations, and they’re fairly interesting. I think Marko is totally on point, but I’m now reevaluating what I want out of this thesis. I thought I was going to build a booth, an interface for others to take photographs of themselves, but now I’m thinking that’s not quite right. Sven suggested I scrap all the tech stuff I’m so hung up on and just do a photo project. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me sooner, after all, people make films and animations for their thesis, so why not a photo show?
Well, now I’m back at square one. I have a lot of work to do.
Today I started out with something simple. I scanned my head:
Two way glass
I’m feeling a bit aimless, but I’m pushing forward with things nonetheless.
I’ve looked into some two-way mirrors. I emailed the good folks at Antenna Design about their project The Emperor’s New Clothes. I got a response back the same day! The emails are below:

I went out and picked up a sample mirror at AAA Glass Plus at 528 East 11th Street. These people are the absolute nicest, and were so helpful. The sample I got isn’t particularly huge, but it’s enough to see that the glass is a funny color and it’s very transparent. I guess it’s all in how you light it…Anyway, it’s really heavy stuff, and I’m not thrilled about working with it.
I need to make some more processing prototypes, or doodle, or something. Something is not quite right, and I feel like I’m sliding in the wrong direction.
More soon.
Experiment 1: Processing Apps
There are user scenarios that go with this, but I feel wishy washy about them. I started building Processing apps. Here are a couple, they both do the same thing with parallax-like interaction with a mouse. The next step is to get the images moving with head tracking.
