Experiment 1: Processing Apps
There are user scenarios that go with this, but I feel wishy washy about them. I started building Processing apps. Here are a couple, they both do the same thing with parallax-like interaction with a mouse. The next step is to get the images moving with head tracking.

Pepper’s Ghost
More insight from Marko:
Pepper’s Ghost is a theater trick used to make ghost-like objects appear on stage. It’s pretty awesome. According to Wikipedia, the viewer sees what’s in the red rectangle, but it’s just a reflection in a half silvered mirror (the green rectangle). Smart, huh? Yes, yes it is.

The Emperor’s New Clothes
Antenna Design made an interesting project using hangers and a dressing room. Basically, the user picks up an empty coat hanger (supposedly carrying an invisible set of clothes), and takes it to a dressing room with a “magic” mirror. The mirror allows the user to see the clothes they’ve chosen. Marko turned me onto this project, and I can see how it relates. One-way mylar is an interesting material to project through…I wonder if I could use it somehow?

Rsizr
Fun to play with, the Rsizr lets you resize your image, and do interesting stuff like add more mountains, take away someone in the shot, etc.
These kittens are closer together…It’s not Photoshop, it’s magic!!

Big Eyes!
This is interesting, a photobooth that enlarges the eyes of its subjects:

Feedback from Erik
Relationship between magic and technology
Playful spaces
Places that can be an agent of change.
*Question if you want to converge aesthetics with utility.
*Can you altar the space of the booth to seem larger? Outdoors? On the moon? Think of Olafar Eliason’s reinvention of the space through lighting in “Take your Time”.
*Gaetane Michaux is showing now in Beacon
*Larger question, why do people need to record moments? Why can’t they just experience? How can the experience be documented automatically?
*Portable issues. Look at Adams from Copenhagen and his techniques for pop-up boats, rooms, and houses. Also the parasite by ______ for the homeless?
Talk to strangers idea?”
*What about a nostalgia booth that remembers the previous user? It could merge your photobooth session with the user before you.
(thanks, Erik!)

Feedback from Marko
While I remember, interactive images.
May I just say,
I’m completely freaking out.
I feel like every few minutes, my ideas change dramatically.
What if I did two booths that communicate?
What if I installed something in current telephone booths around the city that maybe them interesting and note-worthy?
What if I crawled under a rock and hid until May?
